Improving Access to Post Secondary Education for Incarcerated People Through OER

Have you ever wondered how many people are incarcerated in the United States? It seems like a straightforward question, but the answer is not as easy to find as you might expect. Of this group, approximately 64% are eligible to enroll in postsecondary education, but most do not. A major barrier for many incarcerated people is the cost of postsecondary education: many incarcerated people come from unstable economic situations and most make little, if any, money while incarcerated.

Building Bridges to Open Education

Collaboration is key when laying the foundation for open education initiatives. Stakeholders across any given institutional system are numerous and include faculty, administrators, students, librarians, bookstores, among others. However, in many cases, the partnership between librarians and instructional units is underutilized. This blog post focuses on building a pathway to better communicate, partner, present and publish, review, and reconnect faculty support teams to facilitate the growth of open education initiatives in higher education.
